Tuberous Sclerosis Center

 

The NYU Langone Comprehensive Epilepsy Center has developed a comprehensive program that provides well-coordinated, multidisciplinary care for individuals with tuberous sclerosis. The Tuberous Sclerosis Center at NYU Langone, organized under the direction of Dr. Daniel Miles and Dr. Orrin Devinsky, and now directed by Dr. James Riviello, strives to work closely and collaboratively with Dr. Judith Bluvstein, the patient's pediatrician, internist, family practitioner and neurologist to provide the best possible care. Kimberly Menzer, RN, NP, is the dedicated nurse practitioner.

Dr. Miles, the director of the pediatric epilepsy program at the NYU Langone Medical Center, is a board-certified pediatric neurologist with particular interest in the treatment of epilepsy who has worked with children with TS for over a decade. Dr. Devinsky, the director of the NYU Langone Comprehensive Epilepsy Center, is recognized as one of the top adult epileptologists in the country. Dr. Riviello, the Director of the Division of Pediatric Neurology at the NYU Langone Medical Center, has a long-standing interest in epilepsy, refractory epilepsy, and Tuberous Sclerosis. Both Dr. Devinsky and Dr. Riviello are members of the Tuberous Sclerosis Study Group that produced the consensus statement for research into the mechanisms of epilepsy in Tuberous Sclerosis Complex. Dr. Howard Weiner, a pediatric epilepsy neurosurgeon, is one of the world's leading experts in the treatment of children with Tuberous Sclerosis Complex, having pioneered the multi-stage invasive monitoring technique and Dr. Werner Doyle, an adult epilepsy neurosurgeon, has a vast experience with adults with Tuberous Sclerosis Complex. Dr. Delia Talos, one of our research faculty, is specifically studying the underlying mechanisms of epileptogenesis in Tuberous Sclerosis.

The goal of the Tuberous Sclerosis Center at NYU Langone is to assist the patient, the patient's family and the patient's primary care physician in managing the many needs of individuals with TS. The program ensures appropriate and timely follow-up care for patients in all specialty areas. The Tuberous Sclerosis Center is located within the NYU Langone Comprehensive Epilepsy Center at 223 East 34th Street in Manhattan. Together with the twenty neurologists, two neurosurgeons, three neuropsychologists, five nurse practitioners, four registered nurses, and five neuroscientists of the Comprehensive Epilepsy Center, Drs. Devinsky, Miles, and Riviello have joined a dozen other specialists in the areas of child development, cardiology, dermatology, genetics, nephrology, ophthalmology, neuroradiology and psychiatry to guarantee complete care of all aspects of tuberous sclerosis complex.
