The NYU Comprehensive Epilepsy Center, recognized by the National Association of Epilepsy Centers as a Level 4 (highest level) epilepsy center, has established a Dravet Center, committed to providing high quality, multidisciplinary care to patients with Dravet Syndrome and related disorders. The Dravet Center at NYU, organized under direction of Dr. Judith Bluvstein in close collaboration with Dr. Orrin Devinsky, and Dr. Daniel Miles. Level 4 epilepsy centers have the professional expertise and facilities to provide the highest level of medical, dietary, and surgical evaluation and treatment for patients with complex epilepsy.
Both medical and non medical needs of the patients are addressed, in a comprehensive approach. Our aim is not only to treat every patient individually but also to collaborate with other centers across the country and internationally to develop and optimize a standard of care for treating Dravet syndrome as well as to participate in basic science and clinical research protocols. We are part of a collaborative clinical research and comprehensive care network of centers, specialized and dedicated to the care of patients with Dravet syndrome of related conditions.
If inpatient care is needed, the patients are admitted to either the Pediatric or Adult Epilepsy Monitoring Units. Our center has an established Ketogenic diet program with a full time registered dietician. We provide patient centered comprehensive care by collaborative work between highly qualified epileptologists, neuropsychologists, nurse practitioners, psychiatrists, registered dietician, Courtney Schnabel, MS, RD, CDN, parent liaison and social workers. A Dravet Center registry is maintained.
